The house

We supply the stone, not the piece.

Valmer Carat is a French trading house specialising in natural colour diamonds. We assist jewellers, workshops and private clients in acquiring the stone that will carry their project, taking into account the hue desired, the intensity, the shape, the weight and the budget available.

Our selection spans the spectrum of natural colours — yellows, pinks, oranges, and rarer hues besides. Where a stone does not appear among those we hold, we undertake to obtain it for you: you need only specify what it must be.

We offer loose stones only, to the exclusion of any mounted piece; this is the specialisation of the trade, and it allows us to devote our full attention to the stone itself. Each is certified by the Gemological Institute of America and filmed before any transaction, so that you may judge it as it is.

  • Roughly one diamond in ten thousand is naturally coloured, and no two colour stones are ever alike.
  • On request, other hues, other shapes and other sizes are obtained from our partners.
  • Never a mounted piece, and never a stone presented without its laboratory report.

The stone first

Valmer Carat brings together natural colour diamonds, loose and GIA certified, for jewellers and private clients alike. Our role is to assemble, for each project, the stones that suit it, and to accompany you through to the final choice.

Our story

What to know

Colour before carat

On a colour diamond, hue and intensity account for most of the price. Weight comes far behind. A small, intensely coloured stone outranks a large pale one.

Faint Fancy Vivid

The GIA places every stone on seven grades, from Faint to Fancy Vivid. The laboratory report alone is authoritative.

No two colour diamonds are alike.

How we work

We start from the project

Whether you are a private client or a professional, the approach remains the same. You set out your project and the budget you are working with, then we send you the list of stones currently available, each with its hue, intensity, shape and weight; we then narrow it down with you to those that genuinely answer what you are after.

  • List of available stones sent on request
  • Stone obtained to specification: hue, intensity, shape, size
  • Video and GIA report sent before any commitment
  • The stone is delivered loose, ready for your jeweller to set
  • One contact, from the first exchange to the handover
01

The project

You describe the piece, the hue you have in mind and the budget you are working with.

02

The list

You receive the stones currently available, with the video and GIA report for each.

03

On request

If no stone on the list is right, our partners allow us to obtain the one that matches.

04

The handover

The stone leaves with its report. Handed over in person by appointment, or shipped insured.

The report

Nothing without a GIA report

Every stone we present comes with its report from the Gemological Institute of America. The laboratory records the natural origin of the colour, the hue, the intensity, the weight and the cut. We present no stone without that document.

  • OriginColour of natural origin, established by the laboratory
  • HueDominant colour and any modifiers
  • IntensityGrade placed on the Faint to Fancy Vivid scale
  • Shape & weightCut, measurements and weight in carats
